By Rhea Mogul and Robert Shakleford | CNNIndia’s southern state of Tamil Nadu is braced for more downpours after heavy monsoon rains brought deadly flash floods and submerged entire neighborhoods earlier this week. The Indian Meteorological Department (MET) forecast further heavy rain after more than 400 millimeters (15.7 inches) fell in parts of the state from Sunday into Monday. That’s nearly half of what Tamil Nadu typically receives in a year, according to a CNN Weather analysis of MET data.At least 10 people died in the flooding, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena told reporters on Tuesday. The downpour also occurred as the state of 72 million people reels from the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, which battered Tamil Nadu earlier this month, killing at least 12 people.Video and photo broadcast on local television this week showed people wading waist-deep in the muddy water. Indian Air Force helicopters have been dropping food and essential items to people stranded on roofto...

The fight for control of the Pac-12 is over. The 10 departing schools have agreed to a settlement with Washington State and Oregon State that ends three months of internecine litigation and provides clarity on the future of the conference.Announced Thursday afternoon, the deal comes less than one week after the Washington Supreme Court declined to review a lower court’s ruling that had established WSU and OSU as the only members of the governing board. The high court’s decision left the outbound schools with little leverage and few options. As part of the settlement, the 10 schools “have agreed to forfeit a portion of distributions over the remainder of the 2023-2024 year and provide specific guarantees against potential future liabilities,” according to a joint statement issued by WSU and OSU.Additionally, “The conference retains its assets and all future revenues.”(The full statement is below.)“We are pleased to have reached an agreement in princi...

Joe Biden Is Driving the U.S. Into Isolation to Defend Israel’s War Crimes

An estimated 570,000 people in the Gaza Strip are now starving. Three quarters of the territory’s 36 hospitals are closed. The remaining nine, all in Southern Gaza, are “partially functional.” The shuttered hospitals in the north are serving as impromptu shelters for some of the 85 percent of Palestinians in Gaza that have been displaced, but did not trek south to escape the ravages of Israel’s ground invasion. Beyond an estimated death toll of 20,000, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, a devastating 355,000 are suffering from infectious diseases as conditions in the territory worsen.Amid all of this suffering, President Joe Biden has now delayed a UN vote for humanitarian aid to Gaza at least 8 times. The vote is on a UN Security Council proposal, put forward by the United Arab Emirates and repeatedly watered down just for Biden, that calls for limiting the hostilities in Gaza and expanding aid distribution. Officials reportedly crafted the resolution in such a way that it wo...
